Get Rich: The secrets to Building Wealth (Part I - Mindset)

PART 1 - MINDSET
Let’s talk psychology, shall we?
Before you can ever hope to make headway in your finances, you must first start with determining the status of your mindset about money and if necessary, make corrections. With an ideal mindset for money & success, you will be able to propel yourself forward quicker than you can ever imagine.
What is the status of your relationship with money? Is it healthy? Dysfunctional? Not sure? (which is also dysfunctional if you ask me)… This is an important question to answer, so take your time and really think about this for a moment.
Let me tell you a story about myself… Growing up, I developed a conditioned thought process that lead me to believe that making money was extremely difficult.
Do you know how defeating a thought process like this was for me when I ventured out to start making money for myself? For starters, I had no idea it even existed, but had I known about it I believe I would have then been subjected to another evil (as many typically are), which is denial.
In light of the state of my own mindset, when I would take on projects and money-making ventures, they would all simply fail, no matter how promising they appeared to be. I would either start wonderful projects (ventures that were poised for great success) and not finish and/or follow through with them. Or, as I got into the thick of it all (a time when all the challenges typically start to show up), I would give up because it became much too difficult. No matter what, my financial set point was based around the belief that making money is extremely difficult and so I literally ended up sabotaging my own success, every time.
You simply cannot lie to yourself or allow denial to factor in because the cost of doing so will always be yours (as it was for me)! The mind always tries to reconcile and affirm with what it believes to be true. In my case during the early days, instead of getting on with the process of making a lot of money, my mind was conspiring against all my good intentions as it was far too busy trying to prove that making money is extremely difficult!!
The doom and gloom of my mindset woes did not end there with my string of failed ventures, unfortunately… I’ve had plenty of great ideas run between my ears throughout the years and I’ve shared many of them with friends and family. Now get this… Some friends of mine have gone on to try several of my ideas (in fact, even while I was pursuing the very same ideas). And, you know what? While my mindset continued to defeat me, my friends would go on to turn my brilliant ideas into successful money-making ventures! It was mind boggling, to say the least. While my attempts failed miserably, theirs ended up succeeding.
Clearly, the ideas weren’t the issue. They never are…
Here’s the lesson: Ideas come and go but it takes a good mind (with an ideal mindset in place) to execute them. A proper mindset has the power to make all the difference in the world. So, as it turns out my ideas had always been fabulous; the execution of them, on the other hand, had always been poor.
Once I clued into this, my experience (or, as many would call luck) changed. Suddenly, I started to make a lot of money. It was strange: money just flowed to me, easily and effortlessly. In fact, I had to turn away business at times because I couldn’t keep up!
My story proves that you really don’t know how your mind will affect your performance. Until you get out there and get in the game, the truth will be hidden away, locked in your subconscious. It took watching a few of my friends succeed at my very own failed ventures to realize this. Now, I’m not perfect. The mind-traps do linger around and threaten to haunt me at times. But, enough time has lapsed and I’ve gained plenty of experience to know when I’m getting into a mind trap and when I do, I know exactly how to correct the situation!
Take the time to observe yourself… See how you perform and compare that to the performance of those who are succeeding around you in the same ways that you want to succeed. As soon as you get clear about having limiting beliefs (if any), be candid and honest about it and promise yourself to exterminate the pathological mindset.
This is the truth that you must know and believe in your heart:
Becoming rich is not difficult
If you want to be a part of the club, the wealth behind those doors will always be available to you.
If you’re up for the challenge, take this time to explore your own mindset. Reflect on how you’ve handled situations in the past that didn’t turn out as well as you’d hoped. Are there any limiting beliefs lurking around that you must overcome? If so, there’s no time like the present to make the decision to extinguish them from your mind and keep them out forever!
Until the next update in this series…
